| The Disneyland
Resort
The Walt Disney Company proposed to create a world-class destination resort by integrating an array of tourist-related facilities within a comprehensive Master Plan. Components of the plan included Westcot Center, a resort hotel district, Disneyland Plaza, Disneyland Center, Disneyland Bowl, and public parking structures. Key to the overall plan was the Resort's comprehensive transportation program. The transportation plan was developed to not only reduce project-related traffic congestion and vehicle air emissions, but also to implement major physical and operational improvements that would improve regional transportation. Planning Company Associates, Inc.’s work included managing project transportation planners and engineers in assessing traffic impacts and identifying mitigation measures, integrating federal, state and regional policy requirements with the transportation plan, and developing and implementing a comprehensive funding program for the public transportation improvement program. The project involved coordinating with numerous players at the local, state, and federal government level. Due to the regional significance of this project, Planning Company Associates, Inc. compiled and maintained a comprehensive database to track the constantly evolving funding programs, legislation, and regulatory findings. The transportation program managed by Planning Company Associates, Inc. was fully funded and has been implemented. Improvements to the interstate highway system and access ramping, parking, transit, and pedestrian circulation are part of the strategic transportation program developed and funded by Planning Company Associates, Inc. The new project – Disney’s California Adventure - opened to the public February 2001. |
